Nothing beats a cup of coffee....

Which is about what I normally do with my dearest hubby... We will set aside time each week just to sit down in a nice place to read a book and share a large cup of hot cappucino... No amount of shopping or leisure activities we do together can beat that... It's the most relaxing activity we look forward to do together, sharing our personal time & space together.... such a timeless experience... :)

Which reminds me of a book I just completed reading... entitled, 'How Starbucks Saved My Life : A Son of Privilege Learns To Live Like Everyone Else' by Michael Gates Gill... it's such an inspiring book that I felt like joining Starbucks as a manager right away...haha

This well-educated author used to have it all... but consistently failed to set aside time to savour & appreciate the sweet things in life, until he lost it all.... health, career, family and friends...

Surprisingly, he managed to seek solace in the company of a lower class population - ( majorly from the African American group : people he used to scorn and look down upon...) when he joined Starbucks as a barista, just like the rest of them, yet they turned out to be the same people who taught him to appreciate and enjoy life as it is...

Movie review - The Dark Knight

Managed to squeeze in time to watch 'The Dark Knight' with my hubby on Tuesday evening - as promised, cos it's been quite some time since we caught the last show & we already missed 'The Happening' since I kept postphoning... There's always so many things to do, but so little time... :)

It was one of the best action hero movies show I've ever watched in my entire life! It was definitely worth every penny I paid and it practically blew me away... The entire show is gripping and full of climax scenes, leaving you hanging at the edge of your seat....

The 'Joker' - played by the extremely talented Heath Ledger, never fails to consistently inject a feeling of dread and disgust in me with his intense action violence topped with a sick sense of humor...

However, I must admit though on a scientific level that I agree with 'Joker's philosophy ( which he used to justify his actions & to brainwash Harvey Dent aka Two-Face ) regarding the human race... Everyone has the evil and selfish side in them that they suppressed due to civilisation and meritocracy... but when subjected to extreme circumstances and emotional/psychological desperation, survival instincts will automatically come into play... ( as portrayed during the 2 ships hostage situation )

He also mentioned the 'Chaos Theory', whereby if a major component of a plan is tweaked or misplaced, all hell will break loose...because it affects the whole scheme of things, which was planned in advance...

An example I can think of is the war on terrorism... if the whole city of Iraq is massacred just to find a handful of terrorists, it's alright because it's part of the plan... it was already predicted soldiers and innocent civilians have to die... But, if the president of USA was assassinated in the middle of the war, everything will be chaotic because that wasn't the plan... the 9/11 event is a good example of such a chaos...

I was surprised how such a sick, merciless and dangerous psychomaniac can be highly intellectual, far surpassing the intelligence units in Gotham city... his plans never fails to be smoothly executed, which is too far-fetched... yet I strongly feel I have to salute Mr Christopher Nolan for crafting such a wonderful masterpiece at the end of it all...

The strongest character in the movie was definitely the 'Joker' & the weakest link has to be the damsel in distress, 'Rachel Dawes' - played by Maggie Gyllenhaal... her facial expressions fail to bring the expected strong emotions required during some intense scenes....

All in all, it was heart-stopping and every bit enjoyable to watch with family and friends after a tiring day...

Catch phrase of the day : 'Why so serious ?'

Rating : 5/5 stars

busy busy...bzzz...

Haha!! It's so sad that I only managed to squeeze one entry in June... will try to squeeze more time for July entries... Been busy with work and lifestyle nowadays... Busy running or carrying weights in the gym right after work... and will drop dead the moment I reached home... I am having some difficulties raising my eyelids to clock in my reading hours... the books are fast catching dust on my desk now...sigh

The good news though, is I just recovered from a bad allergic reaction that lasted almost the whole month of June... rashes all over my arms and legs, especially the joint areas... no prescribed antibiotics nor antihistamines nor any lotions worked for me... but what helped though is by avoiding seafood, especially shellfish...

It's kinda weird considering seafood has always been my fav food and never gave me any problems then... but now my immune system seemed more hyperactive then before and reacted unnecessarily to anything that appears rather excessive to it...

Currently busy running errands and some shopping in between work and exercising... Been training for the upcoming Great Eastern Women 10K in Oct & Singapore Bay Run 10K on 24 Aug... will skip the Nike Human Race 10K for now... coz it falls so near to Bay Run, don't think my legs can recharge fully for another crazy race within a week of rest..!! :)

For the others joining the Human Race this upcoming 31 Aug, all the best guys!!
